Q.
I recently installed a DVD drive and I
want to change the drive letter of it
and my old CD drive. How can I do this?
A.
Right click on My Computer and chose
Manage from the menu. This dialog will
open. (If My Computer is not on your
desktop, click Start, and it will be
listed there)

In the left pane, double click on "Disk
Management". Then this dialog will
display.

All
of the storage devices will be shown.
Right click on the CD or DVD drive that
you want to change the drive letter on,
and select "Change Drive Letter Path..."

Click
the Change button, then the scroll down
arrow and a list of all available drive
letters will display.

Select the letter you want and click OK.
This confirm message will be displayed:

This
should not be a problem when changing
the drive letter of a CD unless you have
games or other programs that are
installed that require a CD to run. If
the DVD drive is new, this would not
present a problem. Click Yes and the
drive letter is changed. Close the
dialog by clicking the X in the top
right corner and you're finished.
WARNING: Don't be tempted to change the
drive letter of your C drive or any
other hard drive you may have installed
unless you are 100% sure you know what
you are doing. The results could render
your computer useless.
