DADDY BOB'S COMPUTER Q & A
August 12,
2007
DaddyBob Note: This week, I'll answer a
few short, frequently asked unrelated
questions.
Q.
I want to send a snap shot of a message on
my screen in an email. When I press "PrintScrn"
how then do I get that into the email?
A.
When you press the "PrintScrn" key,
you will be saving the captured screen to
the clipboard, where it is very temporary.
You can then open any application that can
display a graphic, and simply paste into it.
One such application that will work comes
with Windows and is called MSPaint.
The
easiest way to open MSPaint is to click
Start, then Run, and enter MSPaint and click
OK. Once it has been pasted in MSPaint, save
it as a .jpg file, and then you can either
insert it directly into an email message if
set to use HTML, or attach it as an
attachment.
Q.
How do I get a picture out of an email if
the picture is included within the email
itself?
A.
When a picture is embedded in an email
rather than attached to it, RIGHT click
on the picture you want to save, and
choose Save picture as from the menu
that will be displayed, then choose
where you want to save it. Repeat for
each picture.
Note
that this may not work if the picture is
not actually embedded in the email. Many
times a picture that appears to be in
the email is actually located on a
remote server and pulled in from there
to be displayed in a HTML type format.
Q.
Why is the "Out of Office Assistant" so
hard to turn on in Outlook? I had a
system at my previous place of
employment that all I had to do is
select it on the tool bar and turn it on
and off.
A.
The "Out of Office Assistant"
is a feature of Outlook very similar to an
email auto responder. “Out of Office” rules
are turned on or off by click “Out of Office
Assistant” on the Tools menu. The Out of
Office Assistant command does not appear
unless you are using an Exchange Server
e-mail account.
I suspect
that at your previous job you were using a
Exchange Server based email, meaning they
had their own email server there but now you
are using a normal ISP's email server. You
may have to use their auto-responder to
accomplish the same thing.
Q.
The strip at the bottom of the screen where
there are quick launch icons used to have
everything in 1 row. Now it's about 1.25"
wide & icons appear 2 or 3 deep. How can I
make it go back to a single thin line of
icons?
A.
The bar at the bottom of the screen is
called the Taskbar, and to resize it, place
the cursor on the very top of it, and when
the cursor changes to an up and down arrow,
press and hold the left mouse button and
drag it to whatever size you want it to be.
The
taskbar can also be moved to the top or
either side of the screen. Click
HERE
to see how that is done.
To
prevent this from happening accidentally
again, you can lock the taskbar. To do this,
right click on a blank spot on it, and
select Lock the Taskbar. Locking it also
prevents it from being moved to the top or
sides of the screen. |
