DADDY BOB'S COMPUTER Q & A

DaddyBob Note:

Service Pack 1 (SP1)for Vista. It is planned

Q.
I am using Vista Home premium and its email
program Windows Mail. I have an email stuck
in my inbox, and it cannot be deleted. How
can I get rid of it?
A.
This is a known problem, and Microsoft has a
fix for it. If you click
HERE,
you will go to a Microsoft Knowledge Base
article that explains the problem, and
offers a download to fix it. Be sure that
you download the correct version for your
computer. If you don't know if yours is
using a 32 or 64 Bit version of Vista, it is
probably 32 bits and I would try that one
first.
Note that
the article specifies the problem with a
message stuck in the Outbox, but it fixes
the problem of messages being stuck in the
Inbox too. After downloading and running
this fix, you will then be able to delete
the problem message.
Q. Is
there a way I can be sure that I have the
latest updates of programs without checking
each one separately?
A. Yes
there is a web site that will do this and I
use frequently. It is called
Secunia.
Here is a brief description of what Secunia
Software Inspector is and what it does.
Feature
Overview - The Secunia Software Inspector
detects insecure versions of applications
installed; verifies that all Microsoft
patches are applied; assists you in updating
your system and applications and runs
through your browser. No installation or
download is required.
How Does
it Work: The Secunia Software Inspector
relies on carefully crafted "Secunia File
Signatures" to recognize applications on
your system. The detected applications are
then matched against our "Secunia Advisory
Intelligence" to determine whether an
application is up-to-date or not. The
results are then used to advise you on how
to update to more secure releases of the
insecure applications.
Microsoft
Windows Update is used to determine if your
system is missing security updates from
Microsoft.
The
Secunia Software Inspector covers the most
common/popular end user applications like
Internet browsers, Internet browser plugins,
Instant messaging clients, Email clients,
Media players, Operating systems and many
other software applications. Click
