Disable UAC for Administrator User

Toggle UAC for Administrator User

These will allow disabling or enabling the UAC warnings when signed on as an administrator without having to re-start Vista. If Vista service pack #1 is installed, there will be no warning icon displayed in the System Tray.

NOTE: This only disables the UAC warning messages for an administrator, not the UAC built in protection.

 

Vista - Remove automatic addition of "Shortcut" to shortcut names

By default, Vista always adds the word "Shortcut" to user created shortcuts. This allows turning off or on this default action. Vista only. For XP use Powertoys Tweak UI.

 

Check for Installed Version of Microsoft Word

This little program will check to see if Microsoft Word in installed on the computer and if it is, the version will be indicated.

This little program will check to see if Adobe Acrobat is installed on the computer.

Write Protect USB Devices

This is a little program that will will toggle (Turn on or off) the write protect feature on any USB device that is used on the computer. This will prevent unauthorized copying of files from the computer to any USB device.

Spybot Search and Destroy

Either of these are rated very high and will remove most of the spyware/adware that always seems to accumulate on a computer. No one anti-spyware application will remove all the problems, so it is usually recommended that more than one be used.

Free Anti-Virus Programs

AVG

Either of these free anti-virus programs come highly rated and offer good protection against viruses if maintained up to date. Both are real time, and offer a variety of features. Unlike anti-spyware programs, only one anti-virus programs should be installed at a time.

Change Registered To Organization and User Name

This little free utility will easily change the computer's registered to organization and user name as seen in the System Properties General tab.

Change the action of the Caps Lock Key
Modify the action of the Caps Lock key to mimic the old fashioned typewriter. That is the Caps Lock key is automatically released when the Shift key is pressed. This little program will allow toggling this setting.

PrintFolder - FolderTree
Two little batch files that allow you to print out the contents of a folder or the folder hierarchy (tree). Copy the downloaded program in the folder you want to view, and double click it.

Restore the Show Desktop Icon

When Windows is installed, there is an icon in the taskbar that will show the desktop when clicked. If this icon has been deleted either in error or on purpose, this little program will restore it.

Microsoft XP Backup

Microsoft XP backup is not installed by default with Windows XP Home like it is with XP Professional. It is on the original XP Home CD, but if you didn't get a XP CD with your computer, you can download the Microsoft XP Backup here.
