Q. Why does my computer displays a file that is 3.97 KB in size as 4,066 Bytes when 3.97 times 1000 equals 3,970? Doesn't the K in KB stand for Kilo which is 1000?

Q. OK, now that I have mentioned this about binary notation using only a 0 and 1, how does the computer handle the numbers in between the 2, 4, 8, 16, etc?

Q. When I sign on, at the welcome screen it says that I have email messages, but when I check, there aren't any. Why is it telling me that I have email when I don't?

Q. I recently bought a new laptop computer, but when I tried to use my PC Card, it doesn't fit. Tech service told me that it is an Express card slot, and the PC card won't work. Why?

Q. On just about all computer, peripherals and other electrical devices there are the two letters CE printed. What's that all  about?

Q. Sometimes someone sends me a picture and it's so big that you have to scroll over and down in order to see the picture. Is this a problem with the sender or receiver? What can be done to make the whole picture show on the screen?

Q. I am trying to email some files to a friend that I wrote but my email program keeps blocking it . It says that it is blocked because it may have unsafe materials in it which is bologna. How can I override that?

Q. In last week's column you suggest zipping a file to attach it to an email to get around some email program's filtering. So what is a zip file, and how do I make one?

Q. Every time I turn the computer on a box comes across my screen and it says The application or DLL C:\Program files\clearsearch\ CSLDRupdater.DLL is not a valid windows image. I don't know what they mean and I have done nothing new to the computer and this started appearing about a week ago. HELP!

Q. In order to download my printer update driver, I had to allow the program access through my OneCare firewall.  Now it's checking to automatically update every time I start the computer and I do not want that! How do I find the place to again block it in my firewall?

Q.  I got my computer used, and when I right click My Computer, choose Properties then the General tab, it shows the old company and user's name. How can I change this?

Q. When I try to make a folder private, I cannot because this feature is grayed out. How can I get this feature to work so I can make a folder private?

Q. On a new computer, the msconfig program has a "Tools" tab that allows launching many of Windows programs. How can I add this to a computer that doesn't have it?

Q. Many times I get an email address confused between .com and .net. Just what is the difference between these anyway?

Q. Ever since I did a reinstall of XP, when the computer boots up I get an extra screen with duplicate items on it asking me which version I want to use. How can I get rid of this extra, useless screen?

Q. I have an old program that doesn't run well with XP. I seem to remember that there is a way to make it run under an older operating system setup. Can this be done and if so, how?
